RABBI'S MESSAGE

A most memorable and challenging Pesach is now behind us. As we continue to adapt to our new reality, let's remember to be cautious about social distancing. This is particularly applicable when so many of us venture out on Shabbos afternoon to walk and distantly visit friends.

Three words that appear in our Parsha, Shemini, have especially important significance. We are told that the conclusion of the phrase  דרש דרש משה is the middle of the Torah as far as the count of letters in the entire Torah. Rav Moshe Teitelbaum suggests that with all that Moshe had learned from Hashem he was still, at the halfway point of the Torah, learning and expounding meaning from that which he continued to experience with the Jewish people. We have had and will continue to have a significant amount of time on our hands, given the current climate, to expand our understanding, knowledge, and learning individually and with our families. This Shabbos we begin the study of Pirkei Avos over the period of Sefira leading up to Shavuos. I would like to encourage all of us to make time at our Shabbos tables to discuss at least one  Mishna each meal and the lessons we can derive as well as apply to our lives from it. Let us learn from Moshe and continue to broaden our learning and knowledge of Torah on a regular basis especially during this difficult period. Good Shabbos!
