David Cherna z"l Kiddush Society
Dedicated Shabbos Mevarchim Iyar 5784 (May 4th, 2024)
One of the hallmarks of Congregation AABJ&D is commitment to a weekly communal kiddush. Kiddush is not (just) about the food, but it's about creating a warm and low key environment for all members of our community to meet and socialize after davening. It enables people from all walks of life and all ages to be together every week as one. The Kiddush Society takes care of everything for kiddush, and sponsors kiddush on weeks when there is no community sponsor.
On March 30th, 2023, our shul lost a dear friend and leader, David Cherna. David left us too soon but his legacy lives on through our shul that he loved, and of course through Shari and his children. David was always so proud of the shul kiddush, where all the various minyanim aimed to finish davening simultaneously so the entire community could come together for kiddush. It is our shul kiddush where West Orange is at its best, when individuals of different ages and backgrounds gel together into one community. On Shabbos Mevarchim Iyar 5784 (May 4th, 2024), as a way to mark David’s legacy and the importance of the Shul kiddush, we dedicated the Kiddush Society in David’s memory, to keep David's memory, values and contribution to our community top of mind.
