RABBI'S MESSAGE

Pesach is the first of our שלש רגלים, our three major holidays of the year. A simple explanation or translation of the word רגלים is feet, equating the historical fact that the Jewish people used their feet to ascend to Yerushalayim to celebrate each of the three holidays. The Sfas Emes points out that the word רגלים is closely related to the word רגילות, meaning habit. The three festivals were different markers throughout the year where people were able to shake off one's lethargy and renew one’s fresh outlook on spirituality and ritual observance. Given the circumstances in which we find ourselves, there has been no greater opportunity to shake off our lethargy toward the meaning behind our practice and custom. One thing we have had plenty of over these last few weeks is time.  A number of people have told me that they have taken advantage of the extra time on Shabbos to rekindle their understanding of mitzvos and increase their Torah learning.  Pesach as well can be an excellent opportunity to visit areas of our learning and observance that we have truly longed for.  While this Chag will be unique and quite difficult from a loneliness perspective for some of us, let us try to reawaken a thirst within us for internal and spiritual growth.  Chag Kasher V’samayach to all!

- I want to reiterate that maintaining our health and safety is of utmost importance.  I am sharing the below guidelines to ensure a safe Pesach. Importantly, if someone has any difficulty breathing or shortness of breath and is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, whether or not they have been diagnosed, please immediately seek medical attention or call 911 on Yom Tov and Shabbos. Click here for RCA Guidelines.

PESACH REMINDERS

  • Don't forget to make an Eruv Tavshilin before the Chag begins. In order to allow foods prepared on Pesach to be eaten on Shabbat, the Halacha requires an Eruv Tavshilin to be made. This entails a piece of matzah and a cooked food, reciting the bracha for Eruv Tavshilin and reciting the paragraph that accompanies the bracha. The two foods are then put away and eaten at the Shabbat day meal.
  • Yizkor Donation: There is a tradition to donate to a charity following the holiday in honor of the deceased. By giving charity, we are performing a positive physical deed in this world, something that the departed can no longer do.  Click here to donate now..

There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form  https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.com, with your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
