RABBI'S MESSAGE

There is a fascinating comment by the gemara in Sanhedrin related to parenting, that is derived from this week's parsha. Toward the beginning of the Parsha the Torah speaks about the rebellious son. He is described as not listening to the voice of his father and the voice of his mother. Why didn't the Torah just simply say that he didn't listen to the voice of his parents? The Gemara derives that if the voice of his father was different from the voice of his mother, the child is not at fault, and is not deemed as being wayward. The Olelos Efraim explains that parents must be on the same page when it comes to the education of their children. If they cannot agree on how to discipline the child, and the child as a result internalizes inconsistent messages, the child cannot be blamed for their rebellious behavior. As we try to make amends in our relationships during this month of Elul, let's be cognizant of this lesson as it may relate to the past or the present.

-I will be out of the office until Tuesday August 24th.  Please contact Rabbi Sharbat for any issues that are time sensitive.
