RABBI'S MESSAGE

The Gemara in Sotah says that Rav Yochanan ben Zakai made nine enactments after the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash, in order to preserve the memory of the mikdash.  One of the enactments was that Kohanim must take off their shoes when blessing the Jewish people. The gemara offers the rationale that perhaps one of the Kohanim would reach down to fix a strap on his shoe while the others were reciting the bracha, and people would conclude that the Kohein adjusting his shoe was not a real Kohein.  The lesson of the Gemara can serve as an important reminder that we must balance the freedom of our own convictions and opinions with that of the reputation of ourselves, our family, and our community.  It has been disturbing to see how some of our fellow Jews have criticized Israel during this critical moment of crisis.  We must always remember that our loyalties must be to the survival of our people more than anything else.  It is heartbreaking to see the language some of our own brethren have used in an effort to maintain their popularity in society.  The seal of Hashem is the word truth.  If we fail to stand for truth, as Hashem’s children, we have truly lost our soul. Good Shabbos!

-Please join us at our local rally for Israel taking place in Livingston this Sunday.

Fully vaccinated means you are 2 weeks after the second shot from Moderna or Pfizer/BioNtech, or the single shot from J&J. We will not be checking vaccination cards, but expect our members to act on the honor system, for the safety and comfort of their fellow members. This does not apply to indoor minyanim, where masks remain required  per state guidelines.
  • In order to help ensure the health and safety of our community, we want to remind everyone of the critical importance of adhering to the calls for social distancing, including play dates or any innocuous get togethers.
