New Wines This Year

Once again this year we are offering the opportunity to purchase a select number of Magnum and Double Magnum bottles.  If you're ever looking for a wow factor at a dinner or Simcha, the presence of a magnum or double magnum on the table will do it.  In addition, these bottles have a longer shelf life since you have twice and four times as much wine with the same amount of air in the bottle.

New wines available this year include (order # added for easy identification):

#15 Baron Edmund de Rothschild, Sauvignon Blanc ($19) – This is a crisp white wine out of New Zealand, who are known for their white wines.  A number of us just tasted this wine this week and it is delicious.  This will be a summer hit and at $19 is reasonable priced.  Get it now before it runs out.

#9 Barkan Platinum Cabernet Sauvignon ($29) – An excellent wine at it’s price point.  This wine is very good and will get better over the next 3 to 5 years.  I have some available if anyone wants to try a bottle before purchasing more than one bottle.

Essa Winery – This winery is located in South Africa and is available for the first time in the US.  The white wine is very drinkable now, while the red wines could benefit from a little longer time as they are very young.

Hadju Winery – These wines are also newly available for the Men’s Club but not new to wine drinkers.  The winemaker here is Jonathan Hadju who is also the winemaker for Covenant.  All four of the wines being offered are exceptional wines and great value.  Not your run of the mill Cabernet.

Carmel Single Vineyard – Two of the wines are new and 2 are rebranded.  These wines all come from single vineyards located over Israel and are really nice wines.  The Cabernet has been a consistently good wine for many years.

#68 Carmel 40th Anniversary – While pricey at $72, this wine is exceptional and will easily keep for 10 years.

#116 Faustino Rioja – This wine was kosher for many years in Israel, and for some reason was never sent to the US.  Times have changed and this is now available, and is a very good Rioja worth your time.

Odem Mountain – A very nice selection of wines at different price points, with the Volcanic series being the winner here.

Nana Winery – The winery is located near Mizpe Ramon in Southern Israel.  Very nice wines, although a little pricey.  It’s definitely worth a try.

Tura Winery – Tura is not a new winery and has been around for many years, but it is new for us this year.  An exceptional stable of very good wines across the board.

Sforno Winery – These are budget wines that appear to be reliable if you’re not looking to spend a lot of money.  I liked the Cabernet best of all of these.
