RABBI'S MESSAGE

The earliest time our shul davens Mincha during the year is at 4:20 in the afternoon as has been the case for the last several weeks.  It is during the month of Teves that the days are shortest, but it is also during this month that the days begin to become longer.  Today we observe the fast of the tenth of Teves, a fast day which commemorates the beginning of the siege around Yerushalayim which ultimately led to its destruction.   Rav Yaakov Emden zt”l points out that Asara B’Teves is observed during the shortest days of the year, and precisely thereafter the days begin to become longer.  Shiva Asar B’Tamuz occurs at a time when the daylight hours are at the longest point of the year, and from that date and on, the days begin to become shorter.  Both of these fasts take place at a time of transformation for the sun and the moon, one in the first half of the month while the other is in the second half.  Rav Emden stresses that this fact is a good sign for the Jewish people, as often we are compared to the way in which the moon fades and reappears.  May the mazel of our people continue to strengthen and may we become more hopeful as the days become longer. Good Shabbos!

Hatzalah Is Coming To West Orange
We are excited to announce that the West Orange Town Council unanimously passed a resolution that, with the support of our local Rabbonim, paves the way for us to launch Hatzalah Volunteer EMS in our community of West Orange. Consistent with our plans to operate in the local communities, discussions are already underway with officials in Livingston to gain similar support there.

Hatzalah provides emergency medical services to those in need and at no out of pocket cost to those we treat. We are a 24/7/365 operation, with our own dedicated dispatchers and communications system. Our membership is exclusively composed of volunteers from our communities, and is funded through donations from our local communities. The organization is led by three experienced Hatzalah EMTs, who together have over 50 years of EMS experience and who have held leadership roles in other divisions of Hatzalah and 911 in New York City and in New Jersey.

Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks and months ahead. Interested in getting involved? Have questions? Email us at info@hatzalahWOL.org
