RABBI'S MESSAGE
Upon hearing his brothers express regret over how he was treated, the Torah says that Yosef turned away and cried. While on the surface Yosef may have cried because he finally heard the brothers regret their actions, the Bais Yisroel zt”l suggests that there may have been something more to Yosef’s crying. Upon sensing the sadness of his brothers, Yosef cried over his role in the conflict which led to his being sold to Egypt. While his father admonished him many years earlier for antagonizing his brothers through speech, it took Yosef time to mature until was able to acknowledge his role in the events that led to his being sold. We tend to look back at events of the past and observe our behavior differently when we do so some time later. This reflection often helps us make peace with our actions of the past, and gives us strength to move forward in the future. Good Shabbos!
