RABBI'S MESSAGE

Yaakov ordered his servants to leave space (revach) between the groupings of gifts that were prepared to greet Eisav.  The Damesek Eliezer zt”l points out that the word revach also appears in Megillas Esther where it is partnered with the word hatzala,  which means saved. When the word revach appears in the Megilla it is found in the context of Mordechai telling Esther that the Jewish people were destined to be saved by Hashem, and that she had apparently been chosen to execute Hashem’s plan.  The Damesek Eliezer suggests that Yaakov used the word revach as a form of beseeching Hashem for the future.  He begged Hashem that if there were going to be difficult periods for the Jewish people throughout history, allow them to have space between each of those periods, so that the people would benefit from times of rest and peace.
