RABBI'S MESSAGE

Noach’s three sons, Shem, Cham , and Yafes are listed by the Torah out of age order.  Cham was the youngest of the sons but was listed in between his two brothers, why was that the case? The story is told that a beloved follower of the Kotzker Rebbe zt”l was observed by his friends as struggling with his faith.  When a number of Chasidim asked the Rebbi what to do for him, the Rebbi told them to bring him closer and support him.  The Rebbi explained his reasoning by referring to the order of the sons of Noach found in the parsha.  Shem and Yafes saw clearly that Cham was struggling, and therefore tried to bring him close to them in order to strengthen him.  The Torah recognizes their efforts by placing the name of Cham in between his brothers even though he was the youngest.  This idea can serve as a lesson for us to offer support to others when we sense they may be struggling. Good Shabbos!

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES

  • As the financial crisis deepens, the WO/Livingston Chesed Group is in the preliminary stages of launching an ambitious project that will try to ease the financial burden on those community members who are unemployed/ underemployed. As we are blessed with many talented professionals in our community, we are compiling a list of individuals who would be willing to donate their services (e.g. medical, legal, financial, IT, therapy, etc). There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form  https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.com, with your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
  • In an effort to assist individuals who are in need of job search support during this economic downturn, the Livingston and West Orange communities have revived the Jewish Job Network (JJN).  JJN is an informal volunteer organization serving the Jewish community in our local area.  The support includes guidance in resume writing, interviewing, career counseling, networking (including LinkedIn), starting a new business, learning how to consult and job retraining.  If you are in need of assistance or if you are interested in volunteering, please go to JJN's website http://jewishjobnetwork.comThe volunteers we seek are people with knowledge/experience in the above areas, including those with contacts in their respective fields who will be able to connect job seekers for industry or position specific advice and potential job placement. We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions on the above, please reach out to Fernand Schoppig - schoppig@fsassociates.com. We hope we can help those in need.
