RABBI'S MESSAGE

The awe of Yom Kippur is now behind us and we look forward to the celebration that is the holiday of Sukkos.  The Shinaver Rebbe explains that every mitzvah that we have is done using a single limb of our body.  For example, we use our hand to light Chanukah candles, our mouths to eat Matzah, and our ears to hear the shofar.   The mitzvah of Sukkah is the only mitzvah which involves the use of our entire body.  When sitting in the Sukkah, our entire body is embraced with mitzvos.  With so much daily focus on our health during these challenging  times, may our observance of this mitzvah serve as a protection from illness in the weeks and months ahead.

-I appeal to our shul family to be diligent when it comes to social distancing and mask wearing  over the Yom Tov.  There has been a rise in cases throughout the Orthodox community in New Jersey as well as New York.  In our community, we have done a great job to this point in adhering to safety regulations, and we must keep our guard up. Wishing the Shul family a healthy and  safe Succos celebration full of simcha.

Good Shabbos and Chag Sameach!

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES

  • As the financial crisis deepens, the WO/Livingston Chesed Group is in the preliminary stages of launching an ambitious project that will try to ease the financial burden on those community members who are unemployed/ underemployed. As we are blessed with many talented professionals in our community, we are compiling a list of individuals who would be willing to donate their services (e.g. medical, legal, financial, IT, therapy, etc). There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form  https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.com, with your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
  • In an effort to assist individuals who are in need of job search support during this economic downturn, the Livingston and West Orange communities have revived the Jewish Job Network (JJN).  JJN is an informal volunteer organization serving the Jewish community in our local area.  The support includes guidance in resume writing, interviewing, career counseling, networking (including LinkedIn), starting a new business, learning how to consult and job retraining.  If you are in need of assistance or if you are interested in volunteering, please go to JJN's website http://jewishjobnetwork.com. The volunteers we seek are people with knowledge/experience in the above areas, including those with contacts in their respective fields who will be able to connect job seekers for industry or position specific advice and potential job placement. We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions on the above, please reach out to Fernand Schoppig - schoppig@fsassociates.com. We hope we can help those in need.
