RABBI'S MESSAGE

The Peseikta has a beautiful mashal to get us in the Shabbos Shuva spirit.  It speaks of a prince who found himself one hundred days journey from his father. When he heard from some of his close relatives that his father wanted to see him, he responded that the trip was too daunting, far beyond  his strength.  Upon hearing his reaction, the king told his son to travel as far as he could uin the direction of his father, and that the king would travel as well and meet him wherever he ended up.  This is precisely the theme of the Aseres Ymai Teshuva.  Hashem wants us to return to Him.  For  many of us, this sentiment is daunting and overwhelming.  Hashem’s desire is that we try our best and that He will meet us on our road back.  May we show Hashem that we are making a true and sincere effort to reach Him over the next few days culminating with Yom Kippur. Good Shabbos!

  - Many thanks to Neal Alexander for creating and donating the mats for bowing for Yom Kippur.  All indoor, parking lot and backyard minyanim will benefit from this beautiful gesture.

- Kol Nidrei Appeal 5781: The Kol Nidrei Appeal is one of AABJ&D’s most important fundraisers. Now more than ever before, your contribution to our Kol Nidrei Appeal is needed.  Please click here to make your contribution today. As the shul manages financial losses related to the pandemic, your donations are truly appreciated.  Please remember all of the support and comfort that AABJ&D has provided to us during these past months—especially during Rosh Hashana. Your support will help to ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our community.  Thank you in advance.

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES

  • As the financial crisis deepens, the WO/Livingston Chesed Group is in the preliminary stages of launching an ambitious project that will try to ease the financial burden on those community members who are unemployed/ underemployed. As we are blessed with many talented professionals in our community, we are compiling a list of individuals who would be willing to donate their services (e.g. medical, legal, financial, IT, therapy, etc). There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form  https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.comwith your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
  • In an effort to assist individuals who are in need of job search support during this economic downturn, the Livingston and West Orange communities have revived the Jewish Job Network (JJN).  JJN is an informal volunteer organization serving the Jewish community in our local area.  The support includes guidance in resume writing, interviewing, career counseling, networking (including LinkedIn), starting a new business, learning how to consult and job retraining.  If you are in need of assistance or if you are interested in volunteering, please go to JJN's website http://jewishjobnetwork.comThe volunteers we seek are people with knowledge/experience in the above areas, including those with contacts in their respective fields who will be able to connect job seekers for industry or position specific advice and potential job placement. We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions on the above, please reach out to Fernand Schoppig - schoppig@fsassociates.comWe hope we can help those in need.
