RABBI'S MESSAGE

In Parshas Reeh we are commanded to give the struggling among us money when they reach out their hand toward us for help. Hashem instructs that we should open our hand and give the poor person that which he needs to live, dei machsoro.  The Rabbis teach that we should give the person enough money that he or she is normally accustomed to. The Alshich suggests that these words can literally mean “that they deserve”.  He explains that we are to approach the mitzvah of Tzedakah in a way that the money we give was destined for the poor person, and we are merely the messenger of Hashem in getting the money to its proper destination.  May we keep this in mind when giving tzedaka.  Good Shabbos!

EVENT REPLAYS

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES

  • As the financial crisis deepens, the WO/Livingston Chesed Group is in the preliminary stages of launching an ambitious project that will try to ease the financial burden on those community members who are unemployed/ underemployed. As we are blessed with many talented professionals in our community, we are compiling a list of individuals who would be willing to donate their services (e.g. medical, legal, financial, IT, therapy, etc). There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form  https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.comwith your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
  • In an effort to assist individuals who are in need of job search support during this economic downturn, the Livingston and West Orange communities have revived the Jewish Job Network (JJN).  JJN is an informal volunteer organization serving the Jewish community in our local area.  The support includes guidance in resume writing, interviewing, career counseling, networking (including LinkedIn), starting a new business, learning how to consult and job retraining.  If you are in need of assistance or if you are interested in volunteering, please go to JJN's website http://jewishjobnetwork.comThe volunteers we seek are people with knowledge/experience in the above areas, including those with contacts in their respective fields who will be able to connect job seekers for industry or position specific advice and potential job placement. We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions on the above, please reach out to Fernand Schoppig - schoppig@fsassociates.comWe hope we can help those in need.
