RABBI'S MESSAGE

There is an understanding that whenever the word “Vehaya” appears in the Torah, it connotes a language of simcha, joy. It is surprising therefore that the pasuk describing a person potentially forgetting Hashem begins with the word “Vehaya”. How can this be explained? Rav Yisroel MeRizhin zt”l suggests the following play on words. If one forgets the word “Vehayah”, which represents simcha, it will cause them to be embedded in sadness, which can lead to forgetting Hashem. May we be blessed by a sense of simcha in our lives on a regular basis.

-I am out of the office on vacation (stay-cation) until Monday August 31st. During this challenging time, while I am technically “away” I remain of course engaged in critical shul matters especially as it relates to planning for the Yamim Noraim.  For other matters that are urgent or time sensitive, please contact Rabbi Sharbat.

-I am pleased to announce that the Carvel store located across from Turtle Back Zoo on Northfield Avenue, is now under the hashgacha of the Vaad of Metrowest.

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES

  • As the financial crisis deepens, the WO/Livingston Chesed Group is in the preliminary stages of launching an ambitious project that will try to ease the financial burden on those community members who are unemployed/
underemployed. As we are blessed with many talented professionals in our community, we are compiling a list of individuals who would be willing to donate their services (e.g. medical, legal, financial, IT, therapy, etc). There will be a coordinator for each service, who will act as a liaison for the service and the individual requesting it. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this form
https://forms.gle/gkMCuxWwSmwnNQsr7 or reach out to any of us at WOLivGives@gmail.comwith your name, contact information and the service you could provide pro-bono.
  • In an effort to assist individuals who are in need of job search support during this economic downturn, the Livingston and West Orange communities have revived the Jewish Job Network (JJN).  JJN is an informal volunteer organization serving the Jewish community in our local area.  The support includes guidance in resume writing, interviewing, career counseling, networking (including LinkedIn), starting a new business, learning how to consult and job retraining.  If you are in need of assistance or if you are interested in volunteering, please go to JJN's website http://jewishjobnetwork.comThe volunteers we seek are people with knowledge/experience in the above areas, including those with contacts in their respective fields who will be able to connect job seekers for industry or position specific advice and potential job placement. We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions on the above, please reach out to Fernand Schoppig - schoppig@fsassociates.comWe hope we can help those in need.
