Since its inception in 1963, Sisterhood has been involved in supporting
the synagogue in many concrete ways. We nave provided both human and
financial resources to run various programs such as Kiddush on Shabbat
mornings, publishing the Chronicle, providing treats for Simchat Torah, and
many more. Sisterhood furnished the kitchens for our new building in 1974
and subsidized construction of the track for the moveable wall. We continue
to provide thousands of dollars yearly for the Youth Committee and to
purchase various furnishings and equipment needed by the nursery school.
Sisterhood Chesed Network
As the Ahawas Achim community has grown, the need to provide an organized
means of assistance to and support for its members has been recognized.
Sisterhood has set up a Network to provide various services which fall into
the category of Gemilut Chasadim.
Such services include:
- Bikur Cholim - visiting the ill
- Assistance to mourners from the seudat havra'ah through the
necessary cooking, shopping and other needs during the week of Shivah
- Supplying transportation for the ill or elderly
- Assistance in organizing simchas such as a Shalom Zachar or Shalom
Bat
- Assistance in placing guests or travelers for Shabbat
The committee would like to know if there are other areas in which it
could help. To volunteer your services or request assistance, call the
appropriate Chesed Chairperson.
